Space- what actually is it?

Okay, 'space' isn't just the atmosphere that surrounds our Earth, it is everywhere!

So many different types of 'space' create an 'overall space'. Confusing? Hopefully not! We'll try and get your heads around the issue.

It is important to get a definition of the organisation of space. Etzioni (1964) conotes 'our society is an organisational society. We are born in organisations, educated by organisations, and most of us spend much of our lives working for organisations. We spend much of our leisure time paying, playing and praying in organisations. Most of us will die in an organisation, and when the time comes for burial, the largest organisation of them all- the state- must grant official permission'. This may be a bit wordy but it gives a general analysis of how society is broken down into multiple spaces. Jameson (1991) adds that the organisation of space is 'a model of political culture appropriate to our own situation that will necessarily have to raise spatial issues as its fundamental organising concern'.

Throughout this blog we will give some examples of the different types of spaces in our society.
